Pakistan has once again affirmed its commitment to regional peace by responding cautiously and defensively to India’s recent unilateral military actions.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said in an interview with The New York Times that despite India’s unilateral aggression, Pakistan responded defensively and cautiously, and is still ready for talks.
He asserted that despite facing missile attacks from India on May 7, Pakistan refrained from escalating tensions and instead chose a mature and calculated response.
As per the report, India initiated the hostilities with missile strikes targeting Pakistani territory. In response, the Pakistan Air Force swiftly and effectively countered the aggression, reportedly shooting down six Indian fighter jets. However, the ISPR DG emphasized that Pakistan's military actions were purely defensive and aimed at maintaining strategic stability in the region.
Several locations, including the Noor Khan Air Base, came under attack during the incident, but the ISPR DG assured that Pakistan’s air defense capabilities remain intact and fully operational. He highlighted Pakistan’s transparency in sharing details of the losses it suffered, both in terms of personnel and infrastructure.
In contrast, he questioned whether India has been equally honest about its own casualties and damages. “Pakistan has shown full transparency,” he said, “but can the same be said about India?”
The ISPR DG also revealed that even after the military confrontation, communication channels between top military officials of both countries remained open.
The New York Times noted that while Pakistan has consistently respected the ceasefire agreement and demonstrated a responsible military posture, provocations from the Indian side have not ceased.
