Atif Aslam, one of Pakistan’s most celebrated music icons, has found himself at the centre of controversy after remaining silent during the recently heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.
Known for his cross-border popularity and timeless music, Atif has largely stayed away from political discourse. However, this time, his silence has triggered strong emotions among his fans.
Following a conflict along the border, India once again blamed Pakistan, prompting many Pakistani celebrities to express their solidarity with their country and denounce Indian aggression. However, Atif Aslam refrained from making any statements, leading many fans to question his loyalty and commitment to his homeland.
It wasn’t until a ceasefire had been declared that Atif Aslam finally broke his silence by sharing his patriotic song “Kabhi Parcham Main Lipte Hain” on Instagram, accompanied by a message about national pride. Although the gesture was heartfelt, it failed to resonate with many of Atif Aslam's followers, who believed it came too late.

Social media was flooded with reactions, most of them critical. One user commented, “You chose fame over your country.” Another said, “Where were you when bombs were falling and drones were flying?” A disappointed fan wrote, “Were all those patriotic songs just for money?”
While Atif has always maintained a neutral stance and a respectful relationship with audiences on both sides of the border, this incident shows that fans now expect their idols to take clearer stands in moments of national crisis.
