A serious scandal has emerged from King Edward Medical University (KEMU) as multiple students have accused Professor Saqib Sohail, Head of the Physiology Department, of physical assault and verbal abuse.
According to the students, the professor allegedly beat them with sticks and hurled abusive language after they failed to sit in a specific order during a class two days ago.
The students, in a written complaint to the Vice Chancellor, assert that they received instructions to sit in a specific order during a class session. When the seating arrangement failed to meet the professor’s expectations, he allegedly resorted to shouting, using foul language, and physically assaulting several students.
According to the application, the Physiology Department staff allegedly received an order to close all exit routes, following which they engaged in violence. They subjected around 300 students to physical and mental torture.
The complaint further states that Professor Saqib Sohail mistreated the students and threatened to fail them in their examinations. According to the document, 62 students were marked as failed in their first-year supplementary exams, sparking further outrage among the student body.
In a move that has raised even more concerns, students allege that Professor Sohail ordered all exits of the Physiology Department to be sealed, effectively preventing anyone from leaving the premises.
The affected students are now demanding the professor’s immediate dismissal and have urged the university to install CCTV cameras in all lecture rooms to prevent such incidents.
The KEMU administration has initiated a formal investigation in response to the uproar. The Vice Chancellor confirmed that the university is taking the matter seriously and will ensure a fair and transparent probe into the allegations.
“An inquiry is underway, and appropriate action will be taken once the facts are established,” said the VC.
