Supreme Court of Pakistan has decided to hear the physical remand case of former Punjab Governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema alongside that of the PTI founder, citing the similarity in nature of both cases.
During the hearing, Chief Justice Yahya Afridi remarked that both cases pertain to physical remand and should be heard together to ensure consistency in judicial decisions.
Cheema’s counsel argued that his client was arrested before the FIR was even registered. The court was informed that the FIR was lodged only after the matter was brought before the High Court.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government’s lawyer contended that police needed Cheema’s custody to recover a pistol allegedly in his possession. However, the court noted that not even a single day of physical remand had been granted.
The Supreme Court adjourned the hearing until April 24. The next proceedings will be conducted by a three-member bench headed by Justice Hashim Kakar.
