The Rs75 currency note, issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) as a commemorative note in July 2023, has become a source of frustration for the public, as many shopkeepers, restaurant owners, and traders are refusing to accept the note.
This has caused inconvenience for citizens who now find it difficult to use it for daily transactions.
Citizens have lodged multiple complaints regarding the note’s non-acceptance, highlighting that businesses are either unfamiliar with its validity or unwilling to accept it due to a lack of awareness. Many people who possess the Rs75 note now struggle to spend it.
In response to the growing concerns, the State Bank of Pakistan has issued a clarification, reaffirming that the Rs75 note is legal, just like all other currency notes and coins in circulation. “The Rs75 note was issued on the occasion of the State Bank’s foundation day and is fully valid for transactions,” the central bank stated.
The note features images of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the State Bank building on the front, while the reverse side showcases Fatima Jinnah.
Financial experts suggest that the State Bank should launch an awareness campaign to educate the public and businesses about the legitimacy of the Rs75 note to ensure smooth transactions.
