Popular influencer and YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia has approached the Supreme Court of India against multiple FIRs filed in various states over his alleged distasteful remarks on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent, hosted by comedian Samay Raina.
On Friday, February 14, 2025, a Supreme Court bench, comprising Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar, stated that the plea would be heard within two to three days. Advocate Abhinav Chandrachud, representing Allahbadia, had requested urgent listing, citing summons from Assam Police for the YouTuber to join the investigation.
The controversy erupted after Allahbadia’s vulgar remarks during an episode of India’s Got Latent sparked public outrage, leading to FIRs in multiple cities, including Guwahati, Indore, and Mumbai. Maharashtra Cyber Cell registered a case on February 12, 2025, booking 30-40 individuals, including judges of the show, for allegedly promoting obscenity. Assam Police dispatched a team to Pune to summon Samay Raina in connection with a complaint filed in Guwahati. Indore Police also received a formal complaint against Allahbadia over the controversial statements.
Despite issuing a public apology after massive criticism and calls for his podcast to be banned, the backlash continues. Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and opposition leaders have strongly condemned the influencer, accusing him of misusing freedom of speech.
With growing legal scrutiny, all eyes are on the Supreme Court’s upcoming decision on Ranveer Allahbadia’s plea.
