The federal government has finalized a mandatory retirement plan for government employees, which will soon be incorporated into the Civil Servants Act of 1973.
The decision includes amendments to Sections 2(1) H and 11C of the Act, allowing for compulsory retirement packages in cases of ministry terminations, departmental dissolutions, and mergers.
The package will provide financial compensation to employees impacted by these changes. The proposal has received approval from the Cabinet Committee on Legislation.
Under the new rules, affected employees will have the right to submit an application to a committee formed by the Prime Minister within seven days of being offered the package.
The committee will then review and decide on the request within 30 days.
The proposal also stipulates that any employee who refuses to accept the compulsory retirement package will face termination.
The amendments to the Civil Servants Act, 1973, are expected to be approved by the Federal Cabinet, further cementing the government's efforts to streamline and restructure public sector employment.
