Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a review meeting focused on the ongoing reforms in Pakistan's aviation sector, emphasizing the need for enhanced facilities for passengers, tourists, and overseas Pakistanis at airports across the country.
During the meeting, the prime minister directed the authorities concerned to ensure that more service counters are operational during peak hours to reduce waiting times for passengers. He also stressed the importance of completing this year's safety audit of the aviation sector promptly, reflecting his administration's commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and service.
PM Shehbaz highlighted that the Aviation Act 2023, which was approved during the previous government, serves as the cornerstone for the current reforms in the aviation sector. He instructed that all policy measures and reforms under the Act should be fully implemented to achieve the desired improvements in the sector.
A significant focus of the meeting was the development of Skardu International Airport, where the PM insisted that the best facilities be provided to passengers.
The meeting involved a detailed briefing on the progress of aviation sector reforms, with officials reporting that large-scale reforms are actively being implemented under the Aviation Act. The meeting was also briefed that the third-party validation of all projects and initiatives was being ensured.
Additionally, it was revealed that work on a feasibility report for the expansion of Skardu Airport will commence soon. Furthermore, the meeting was informed that expressions of interest have been received for the installation of automated border control systems at airports, a step aimed at streamlining and securing passenger processing.
