Google has unveiled the Pixel Watch 5 with new artificial intelligence features, upgraded health tracking and improved performance as part of its Made by Google 2026 event.
The new smartwatch was introduced alongside the Pixel 11 series on August 12, as Google expanded its latest Pixel ecosystem with new smartphones, wearables and AI-powered features.
The Pixel Watch 5 will go on sale from August 20 in selected markets, including the United States, United Kingdom and Australia.
The smartwatch retains the round design of its predecessor and is available in 41mm and 45mm sizes, with both Wi-Fi and LTE versions.
It features a round AMOLED display with peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits and is powered by an accelerated version of the Snapdragon Wear W5 Gen 2 chipset, which Google says delivers a 12% performance improvement.
Google has also doubled the built-in storage to 64GB, compared with 32GB on the previous generation.
Gemini AI comes to Pixel Watch 5
One of the biggest additions to the new smartwatch is the integration of Gemini, Google's AI assistant.
Google says Gemini on the Pixel Watch 5 is designed to provide more personalised and proactive assistance based on the user's activities and context.
The move forms part of Google's broader effort to integrate Gemini across its latest Pixel devices.
Advanced health and fitness tracking
Health and fitness monitoring remain central to the Pixel Watch 5.
Google describes the device as offering its most advanced sleep tracking yet on a Pixel Watch, alongside improved health and fitness monitoring.
The smartwatch includes loss-of-pulse detection, SpO2 monitoring, ECG and skin temperature tracking. It also features built-in GPS for tracking outdoor activities.
The device supports Bluetooth 6, Wi-Fi 6, NFC and UWB, while IP68 and 5ATM ratings offer protection against dust and water.
Google has also expanded its Health Guardian system with additional health trend insights. However, the availability of some health features may vary by market and depend on regulatory approval.
Bigger batteries and more storage
The Pixel Watch 5 comes with larger batteries than its predecessor.
The 41mm model features a 332mAh battery, while the 45mm version has a 465mAh battery.
Both models come with 64GB of storage, providing additional space for applications, music and other content.
Colours and Stephen Curry edition
The 41mm Pixel Watch 5 will be available in Matte Black, Polished Silver, Champagne Gold and Satin Pyrite.
The 45mm model will offer the same finishes except Champagne Gold.
Google is also introducing several band options, including a Stephen Curry special edition. The special edition is expected to launch later, with reports indicating a September 3 release.
Pixel Watch 5 price
The Pixel Watch 5 starts at $399 for the 41mm Wi-Fi model, while the 45mm Wi-Fi version starts at $429.
LTE models cost more, with cellular connectivity adding around $100 to the starting price.
In the UK, the smartwatch starts at around £369, while the starting price in Australia is reported at A$649.
