SpaceXAI has launched Grok 4.5, its latest artificial intelligence model, with founder Elon Musk describing it as an "Opus-class model" that delivers faster performance, greater token efficiency and lower operating costs than rival AI systems.
In a blog post published on Wednesday, SpaceXAI said Grok 4.5 is designed to handle a wide range of tasks, including coding, software development, research, writing, office work and other routine knowledge-based activities.
The company said the model offers twice the token efficiency of competing AI models, potentially reducing costs for businesses and developers using the technology.
Musk compares Grok to Anthropic's Opus
Announcing the release on X, Elon Musk said Grok 4.5 had received strong feedback during beta testing.
He described it as an "Opus-class model", referring to Anthropic's flagship AI model built for complex reasoning tasks.
Musk later added that SpaceXAI's internal testing found Grok 4.5 to be "roughly comparable to Opus 4.7" while being significantly faster and more cost-effective.
Competitive pricing
SpaceXAI has priced Grok 4.5 at:
- $2 per million input tokens
- $6 per million output tokens
By comparison, Anthropic's Opus 4.7 reportedly costs $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens.
OpenAI's pricing varies by model, with its premium Sol model costing $5 per million input tokens and $30 per million output tokens, while the lower-cost Luna model is priced at $1 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens.
Competition heats up
The release comes during a busy week for the AI industry.
OpenAI is also expected to unveil GPT-5.6, which the company describes as its most powerful AI model to date, intensifying competition among leading AI developers.
