Iran on Thursday accused NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte of admitting Europe's "willful complicity" in the US-Israeli military campaign against Tehran, saying countries that provided logistical support and military infrastructure for the attacks share responsibility for what it described as an unlawful war of aggression.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei condemned Rutte's latest remarks supporting US military strikes on Iran, accusing European nations of actively assisting the campaign.
In a post on X, Baghaei said Rutte's repeated statements confirmed that European countries were not neutral during the conflict.
"Mark Rutte's repeated admissions of Europe's willful complicity in the US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran only confirms, once again, that they were not impartial in this brutal unlawful aggression," he wrote.
'Cannot evade responsibility'
Baghaei argued that countries which allowed their territories, military bases and infrastructure to be used during the conflict could not distance themselves from its consequences.
"Those who provided their territories, military bases, and infrastructure to enable the aggression cannot evade responsibility for their contribution to an unprovoked aggression and its grave consequences," he added.
Rutte backs US strikes
The remarks came after NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte defended the latest US military attacks on Iran, describing them as "absolutely necessary."
Rutte also said NATO member states had provided logistical support to the United States during the conflict, revealing that between 4,000 and 5,000 US military aircraft had departed from bases across Europe during the first six weeks of the war in March.
His comments have drawn sharp criticism from Tehran, which maintains that the US-led campaign violated international law and was carried out without justification.
