A deadly terrorist attack on a police post in Balochistan's Ziarat district claimed the lives of nine police personnel after an intense overnight exchange of fire.
Authorities have launched a search operation as security has been tightened across the area.
According to police, terrorists attacked a police post in the Kach Mangi Phase 3 area of Ziarat, sparking a heavy exchange of gunfire that continued throughout the night.
The attack prompted an immediate response from police personnel stationed at the post, leading to a prolonged firefight with the attackers.
Speaking to the media, Ziarat SP Abdul Quddus confirmed that nine police personnel embraced martyrdom in the terrorist attack. He said the martyred officers include two station house officers (SHOs), highlighting the heavy toll the assault took on the police force.
Bodies shifted to hospital
SP Quddus said the bodies of the martyred personnel were shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Ziarat following the attack.
Authorities are completing the necessary legal formalities while arrangements are being made for the martyrs' funerals.
Security tightened as search operation continues
Police said security forces and additional police personnel were deployed to the area immediately after the incident to prevent any further security threats.
A search operation is currently underway to trace the attackers and clear the area, with security agencies combing the surroundings as efforts continue to bring those responsible to justice.
Aleem Khan condemns attack
IPP President and Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Ziarat. He expressed deep sorrow and grief over the martyrdom of the police personnel.
"The sacrifices of our martyrs will never go in vain, and the nation will always remember them," said Abdul Aleem Khan. "The entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with its security forces in the fight against terrorism."
"The sacrifices made by our law enforcement agencies are unforgettable," the minister added.
Aleem Khan also extended heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the families of the martyred police personnel.
