Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to fully digitalise Pakistan's Hajj operations for next year, aiming to make the process more transparent, efficient and convenient for pilgrims.
Sources said the Ministry of Religious Affairs has begun work on a comprehensive plan following the prime minister's instructions.
According to sources, the premier has asked the Ministry of Religious Affairs to prepare a practical and comprehensive roadmap for the complete digitalisation of Hajj operations.
The proposed reforms are aimed at improving transparency, speeding up procedures and making Hajj services more accessible for intending pilgrims.
Most Hajj procedures to move online
Under the proposed system, most stages of the Hajj process are expected to be carried out online.
Sources said the application, confirmation and payment systems will be further modernised, allowing pilgrims to complete key procedures digitally.
Officials are also considering the development of an integrated digital platform that would bring all Hajj-related services under one system.
The initiative is expected to link every stage of the Hajj process, reducing the need for multiple procedures and improving coordination.
NADRA, banking systems may be integrated
Sources said the Ministry of Religious Affairs is holding technical consultations with relevant institutions to finalise the digital framework.
Recommendations include integrating systems operated by NADRA, banks and other relevant departments to ensure smoother processing of Hajj applications and related services.
The proposed reforms also aim to reduce human intervention by increasing automation in Hajj operations.
According to sources, a modern digital mechanism for registering and resolving complaints is also under consideration to improve services for pilgrims.
Sources said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will soon receive a detailed briefing on the proposed digitalisation plan.
Following final approval, the digital reforms are expected to become part of Pakistan's Hajj policy for next year's pilgrimage.
