Police have registered a murder and terrorism case in connection with the killing of Pakistan Air Force Group Captain Asim Tariq, who was shot after intervening in an alleged harassment incident in the federal capital.
The case was lodged at Margalla Police Station on the complaint of the Commandant Air Headquarters, while the arrested suspect was produced before an anti-terrorism court.
According to the first information report (FIR), the case has been registered under provisions relating to murder and the Anti-Terrorism Act.
The FIR states that Group Captain Asim Tariq was travelling from Air Headquarters to Nur Khan Airbase when he witnessed a man allegedly harassing and assaulting a young woman on Ninth Avenue.
Officer intervened to help woman, FIR says
According to the FIR, the Pakistan Air Force officer introduced himself and intervened to stop the suspect from allegedly harassing the woman.
The document states that the suspect initially left the scene after threatening the officer but later returned after making a U-turn.

Police said the suspect then approached the officer's vehicle and allegedly opened fire.
According to the FIR, the bullet passed through Group Captain Asim Tariq's right arm before striking his chest, causing fatal injuries.
Suspect produced before ATC
The arrested suspect, identified as Saad Abbasi, was produced before the Anti-Terrorism Court in Islamabad.
He was brought to court with his face covered by a black cloth. The case will be heard by ATC Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain.
Earlier, Islamabad Inspector General of Police Ali Nasir Rizvi said investigators arrested the suspect within nine hours of the shooting.
According to the police chief, 11 investigation teams examined footage from hundreds of CCTV cameras, analysed call data records and used artificial intelligence to trace the suspect before carrying out multiple raids that led to his arrest.
Police said preliminary investigations found that the suspect had allegedly attempted to force a woman into accompanying him before Group Captain Asim Tariq intervened.
