Pakistan Test captain Babar Azam has said success in cricket requires patience and consistency, stressing that results cannot be achieved overnight.
Speaking at a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) programme, Babar also discussed his approach to captaincy, batting and the team's preparations for the upcoming Test tours of the West Indies and England.
Babar Azam said he always adjusts his batting according to the team's situation and match requirements.
"If the team needs quick runs, I play aggressively. If the situation demands caution, defensive batting is also part of my game," he said.
Captaincy is an honour
The Pakistan skipper described leading the national Test side as a privilege, saying he had learned valuable lessons from his previous stint as captain.
Babar said experience, maturity and clearer decision-making come with time, adding that he intends to lead the side with improved planning and a positive mindset.
Backing young players under pressure
Babar said supporting young cricketers remains one of his key responsibilities as captain.
He explained that international cricket can be mentally demanding, and he tries to build players' confidence through regular communication while helping them cope with pressure.
The captain added that discipline, fitness and performance remain non-negotiable standards within the team.
Confident ahead of West Indies, England tours
Babar praised the red-ball training camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), saying it had played an important role in preparing the squad.
He said training in challenging conditions had helped players improve their ability to deal with different match situations and pressure.
While describing the upcoming West Indies tour as challenging, Babar expressed confidence in the team's preparations, noting that several players also have county cricket experience that could prove valuable during the England series.
Welcomes positive criticism
Babar said he accepts constructive criticism and always tries to learn from it.
He added that consistent performances are built over time and urged patience, saying improvement comes through routine and sustained hard work rather than instant success.
The Pakistan captain acknowledged the high expectations of cricket fans and said the team would give its best to meet them.
He expressed confidence that the players would continue working hard to achieve positive results in the upcoming Test assignments.
