Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has strongly rejected fake news about his death circulating on social media, criticizing those spreading false reports and edited videos.
Wasim Akram said fake news about his death had been circulating on social media for the last two days.
He sarcastically praised those asking whether he was alive, saying they deserved a “21-gun salute” for believing and sharing unverified claims.
The former fast bowler questioned why people do not verify such claims before spreading them. He said artificial intelligence can find out facts within seconds, asking why social media users fail to do the same.
Fake videos used former cricketers’ names
Wasim Akram said those who created fake news and videos must have worked hard to make them look convincing. He added that the creators had even used the names and images of former cricketers Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Akhtar to spread the false reports.

Akram advised people involved in creating and sharing fake news to use their minds for positive work. He said if they put the same effort into something useful, they could become successful in life.
Wasim quotes Punjabi proverb
The cricket icon also referred to a Punjabi proverb, saying that loading books onto an unwise person does not make him a scholar.
He said one has to study and learn properly, adding that even copying requires intelligence.
