Emam Ashour has become the first Egyptian player to score in a FIFA World Cup knockout stage after finding the net against Australia in the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup, staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Early header puts Egypt closer to historic Round of 16 qualification
He headed the ball into the Australia goal early in the first half, bringing Egypt closer to a place in the Round of 16 for the first time in their history.
Egypt have now scored 10 goals in World Cup group-stage matches across their participations in 1934, 1990, 2018 and 2026.
Mohamed Salah leads Egypt’s World Cup scoring chart with three goals, followed by Abdulrahman Fawzi and Emam Ashour with two each, while Magdi Abdelghani, Mostafa Ziko and Mahmoud Sabar have scored one goal apiece.
