American film star Tom Cruise celebrates his 64th birthday on Friday after an exceptional cinematic career spanning more than three decades, during which he established himself as one of Hollywood's leading action stars.
Cruise worked with many of the industry's most celebrated actors and filmmakers, securing his place among the defining stars of his generation. He made his film debut in 'Endless Love' in 1981, attracting attention for his talent before starring in a succession of commercially successful productions, including 'Top Gun' (1986) and 'Rain Man' (1988).
He later strengthened his reputation with several acclaimed performances, most notably in the drama 'Born on the Fourth of July', which earned him his first Academy Award nomination.
Cruise confirmed his standing as one of Hollywood's foremost stars when he launched the 'Mission: Impossible' film series in 1996. The franchise established him as one of the leading action actors of the 1990s, while his performance in Jerry Maguire, released the same year, brought him a second Academy Award nomination.
His most recent cinema appearance came in 'Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning' (2025). The film earned $598.77 million worldwide against a production budget of approximately $350 million.
Cruise is preparing for the release of several forthcoming projects, including the comedy-drama 'Digger', his first collaboration with acclaimed director Alejandro González Iñárritu. The film is scheduled for release in cinemas in early October.
The story follows the world's most powerful man as he embarks on a desperate mission to prove he is humanity's saviour before a catastrophe of his own making destroys everything.
