A sudden cloudburst in Thor area of Chilas triggered severe flash floods, causing large-scale destruction in Thormak, Thorangara and nearby areas.
The floods damaged homes, agricultural land and roads, while affected residents said they were forced to begin relief and debris removal work on their own due to access problems.
According to local reports, heavy flooding followed a sudden cloudburst in Thor, creating a dangerous situation across several parts of Chilas.
Thormak, Thorangara and other surrounding areas were among the worst affected, where floodwaters caused severe damage to residential houses, agricultural lands and connecting roads.
Homes, vehicles and livestock swept away
The flash floods washed away several residential houses, vehicles, livestock and valuables. Residents said household belongings, cash and around 200 grams of gold were also swept away by the floodwaters.
A local mosque was also flooded, while standing crops were destroyed, adding to the losses of already distressed families.
Land connectivity in many affected areas was disrupted after connecting roads were damaged or blocked by floodwaters and debris.
Relief teams faced difficulties reaching the affected locations due to the closure of these access roads. The disruption has slowed rescue and relief efforts in several flood-hit communities.
Locals begin relief work on their own
With official teams struggling to access the affected areas, local residents started relief activities and debris removal work themselves.
People were seen trying to clear damaged areas and recover belongings from the wreckage left behind by the flash floods.
Affected families have appealed to the government and district administration for immediate relief. They have also demanded compensation for losses caused by the cloudburst and flash floods, including damage to homes, crops, livestock, vehicles and valuables.
