Mobile services have been partially suspended in 24 districts of Punjab as part of security arrangements for Ashura processions and gatherings.
According to the Punjab Home Department, the suspension will remain in place only in sensitive areas where processions and majalis are being held and will continue till 10pm.
The Home Department said mobile services are being partially suspended at gathering points in 24 districts of Punjab to ensure security on Ashura.
The affected districts include Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Sargodha, Khushab and Bhakkar, where services will remain partially suspended till 10pm.
Mobile services will also remain partially suspended in Hafizabad, Gujrat and Narowal, according to the Punjab Home Department. It said Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang and Chiniot are also among the districts where partial restrictions have been imposed.
The department said mobile phone services would be fully restored in Lahore and various districts of Punjab after the security period ends.
In Attock and surrounding areas, mobile and internet services have been suspended as the main Ashura procession moves towards its destination under tight security arrangements.
Mobile networks in Sindh cities
In Qambar Shahdadkot district, mobile network service has also been suspended due to security concerns, police said.
Mobile service was also suspended in Nawabshah city on Ashura night, with the district administration saying the step was taken to maintain law and order.
Quetta, Bahawalnagar face suspension
Mobile service has once again been suspended in Quetta city and its surrounding areas due to security concerns linked to the Ashura procession, officials said.
In Bahawalnagar, mobile service has also been suspended under 10 Muharram security arrangements and will remain suspended until tomorrow night.
