Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said that $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds held in Qatar will be released under a preliminary deal with the United States.
The announcement comes as Iran–US technical-level talks continue in Switzerland under a broader memorandum of understanding.
$6 billion frozen assets set for release
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Sunday that Iranian funds worth $6 billion held in Qatar will be returned to Tehran.
He said the release of the funds is part of an early-stage arrangement linked to ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States.

According to a statement carried by state broadcaster IRIB, Pezeshkian said the development coincides with the start of technical-level talks between both sides.
Nuclear position reaffirmed by Tehran
Pezeshkian also reiterated Iran’s long-standing position on its nuclear programme.
He said Iran will “never give up” its right to enrich uranium, adding that the country has no intention of developing a nuclear weapon.
The Iranian president stated that the United States has insisted Iran should not pursue atomic weapons, a condition Tehran says has already been addressed by its Supreme Leader.
Talks underway in Switzerland
US and Iranian delegations have arrived in Switzerland for technical negotiations under a memorandum of understanding signed earlier this month.
The discussions are taking place in Bürgenstock and are being conducted with mediation support from Pakistan and Qatar.

The talks aim to implement steps outlined in the agreement, including regional de-escalation and economic arrangements.
The US delegation is being led by Vice President JD Vance, while the Iranian side includes Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Pakistan and Qatar are acting as key mediators in the process, facilitating communication between the two sides and supporting implementation of the agreement.
Officials say the presence of multiple international stakeholders reflects the complexity and sensitivity of the ongoing negotiations.
Pezeshkian highlights progress in understanding
Earlier, President Pezeshkian said the US–Iran memorandum of understanding is fully aligned with Iran’s interests.
He expressed hope that results from the ongoing diplomatic process would soon become visible as implementation discussions progress.
According to him, both sides are now moving forward with the practical implementation phase of the agreement through continued engagement.
