Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref has expressed hope that ongoing negotiations in Switzerland will bear fruit.
According to Al Jazeera, Aref said a new phase was emerging in regional affairs, adding that boycotting any country in the Arab region would no longer be considered an option.
“We are entering a new space, a space where boycotting any country in the Arab region will no longer be an option and is out of the question,” he said.
Speaking at a government meeting on Sunday, Aref said Iran possessed a powerful instrument that had not previously been employed.
“This is because we had a strong tool that was stronger than the other side’s, and we had not used it at all, and now we are using it,” he said, according to Iran’s ISNA news agency.
The senior Iranian official also issued a warning regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
Aref said the Strait of Hormuz belongs to Iran and noted that generations of Iranians had sacrificed their lives throughout history to protect the strategic waterway.
He added that the strait should not be crossed lightly.
