Pakistan Railways has handed the commercial management of five passenger trains to private sector partners under agreements worth Rs10.75 billion.
The trains include Awam Express, Millat Express, Karakoram Express, Mianwali Passenger and Narowal Passenger. They will operate under public-private partnership arrangements aimed at providing improved services for passengers.
Pakistan Railways had been earning around Rs8 billion from these trains before the outsourcing agreements.
The railway authorities said more than Rs10 billion in revenue is expected in the next financial year through the outsourcing of freight trains.
Federal Minister for Railways said Pakistan Railways is expected to generate more than Rs100 billion in revenue this year for the first time in its history.
He said efforts were under way to strengthen the railway system and that further positive developments were expected in the coming months.
Pakistan Railways termed the move as the most successful outsourcing initiative in its history, with the management of five trains transferred to private partners under agreements valued at Rs10.75 billion.
