The federal government has reduced the petroleum levy on petrol by Rs9.34 per litre, while increasing the levy on high-speed diesel by Rs8.67 per litre, according to an official notification.
The revised rates also include changes in freight margins, ancillary costs and duties on different petroleum products.
According to the notification, the petroleum levy on petrol has been reduced from Rs116.08 per litre to Rs106.74 per litre. This means the levy on petrol has been cut by Rs9.34 per litre.
Diesel levy increased
The petroleum levy on high-speed diesel has been increased by Rs8.67 per litre. According to the notification, the levy on diesel has been raised from Rs44.59 per litre to Rs53.26 per litre.
Freight margins revised
The freight margin per litre on petrol has also been reduced by Rs4.45. Similarly, the freight margin on high-speed diesel has been cut by Rs2.01 per litre.

The notification states that ancillary costs and duties on petrol have been increased by Rs9.30 per litre. However, ancillary costs and duties on diesel have been reduced by Rs9.57 per litre.
Dealers’ margin unchanged
The dealers’ margin on both petrol and high-speed diesel has been maintained at Rs8.64 per litre. The notification shows no change in dealers’ margin for the two major petroleum products.
The levy on kerosene oil has been maintained at Rs20.36 per litre. The levy on light diesel oil has been fixed at Rs15.84 per litre.
According to the notification, the levy rate on high octane has been set at Rs305.37 per litre, while the levy on furnace oil is Rs77 per litre.
