Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has told Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian that the landmark Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will help rebuild Iran and strengthen ties between the two neighbouring countries.
PM Shehbaz held on Thursday a telephone conversation with Iran's President Pezeshkian. The call lasted for more than thirty minutes. This was the first contact between the two leaders following the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. Moreover, the prime minister congratulated the Iranian president, the leadership of Iran, and its people on the historic peace agreement.
He said the accord would help restore peace in the region and contribute to rebuilding Iran, while further strengthening Pakistan-Iran relations in all fields of mutual interest.
The prime minister also conveyed good wishes to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei.
He expressed Pakistan’s continued support for Iran as a brotherly and neighbouring country and welcomed Iran’s commitment to the peace process.
President Pezeshkian thanked PM Shehbaz and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their role in facilitating the mediation process, which he said was carried out with sincerity and skill.
He said Iran valued Pakistan’s constructive role during a difficult period and remained committed to expanding bilateral relations.
Both leaders agreed to maintain contact and to exchange visits at the earliest opportunity in order to advance cooperation in bilateral and regional matters.
