Karachi is increasingly being termed as a city of heart patients, with young people among the worst affected.
The rate of heart attacks among individuals under 40 has reached up to 15 per cent. Unhealthy lifestyle choices, obesity, high blood pressure, poor diet, and lack of exercise are major contributing factors behind the rising incidence of heart attacks.
The number of cardiac patients in Karachi has risen to a concerning level, with a significant proportion of young people among those affected.
At the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, between 50 and 60 cases are reported daily. At Civil Hospital, around five cases are recorded each day, while private hospitals report more than 30 cases daily.
Dr Tahir Sagheer, head of NICVD, stated that 15 to 20 per cent of heart attack patients are under the age of 40, with many patients dying before reaching hospital.
Cardiologist Dr Salim Virani has said that the medical experts continue to stress the importance of a balanced diet, regular exercise, avoidance of tobacco, and routine medical check-ups to prevent heart disease.
Experts have warned that if young people do not change their daily habits, heart attacks could develop into a serious social crisis.
