The reports in US media have claimed that an initial understanding has been reached between the United States and Iran.
It has been reported that agreement has been reached on the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and a 60-day ceasefire.
It has also been stated that easing of sanctions will depend upon practical steps by Iran, while talks on the Iranian nuclear programme are set to continue during the ceasefire period.
The ceasefire, according to the report, is expected to apply across all fronts.
US President Donald Trump has previously stated that documentation relating to a deal is at its final stage, with signing expected by the end of the week.
He said that the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened within a week of any agreement, and expressed the view that the Iranian Supreme Leader had already approved the arrangement, while maritime restrictions would remain in place until a formal deal is concluded.
On the other hand, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has said that no final decision has yet been taken on an agreement with the United States, although diplomatic contacts are continuing.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has stated that while large parts of the text have been finalised, Iran will not compromise on its red lines.
