The government has summoned sessions of both the National Assembly and the Senate for tomorrow (Wednesday) as preparations for the federal budget 2026–27 enter a decisive phase.
The budget is scheduled to be presented on June 12, according to Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry.
According to official details, the Senate session will be held at 4:00 pm, while the National Assembly session will begin at 5:00 pm on Tuesday.
President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the summary for convening both parliamentary sessions.
The move comes as the government moves forward with final budget formalities for the new fiscal year.
Federal budget to be presented on June 12
Earlier, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry confirmed that the federal budget for fiscal year 2026–27 will be presented on June 12.
He said the summary for convening the budget sessions had already been forwarded to relevant authorities.
NEC meeting also scheduled
In parallel, an important meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) will be held tomorrow at 11:30 am under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Chief Ministers of all four provinces are expected to attend, along with representatives from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Focus on development budget
The NEC meeting will review the development programme and economic targets for the upcoming fiscal year.
Key discussions will include the distribution of development funds between the federation and provinces and approval of national development priorities.
Sources said the council will also finalise the development budget for 2026–27.
According to sources, the proposed national development budget stands at Rs 4,715 billion, including:
- Rs 1,126 billion for the federal Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP)
- Rs 3,138 billion for provincial development projects
Officials also indicated a possible increase of Rs 200 billion in the federal PSDP, though final approval will be made in the NEC meeting.
