The Punjab government has sought the deployment of Pakistan Army and Rangers personnel to strengthen security arrangements during Muharram across the province.
The Punjab Home Department has formally written to the Federal Ministry of Interior, requesting military and paramilitary support to ensure the peaceful observance of Muharram and maintain law and order.
According to official correspondence, the Punjab Home Department has sought the services of Pakistan Army and Rangers contingents for comprehensive security arrangements during Muharram.
The request was made following a recommendation from Punjab Police, which asked for additional security support to help maintain peace during the religious observances.
137 companies requested for 39 districts
The provincial government has requested a total of 137 companies of Army and Rangers personnel for deployment across 39 districts of Punjab.
The request includes 61 companies of the Pakistan Army and 76 companies of Rangers to assist local law enforcement agencies.
According to the Home Department, Army and Rangers contingents will be deployed from the 1st to the 11th of Muharram, depending on the security requirements of individual districts.
The deployment plan has been designed to provide support where needed and strengthen security during religious gatherings, processions and other Muharram-related activities.
Peaceful observance
Officials said law enforcement agencies, with the support of Army and Rangers personnel, will work together to ensure the peaceful conduct of Muharram throughout Punjab.
The additional security measures are aimed at maintaining public safety, preventing any untoward incidents and ensuring that religious events take place in a secure environment.
Approval awaited
The Punjab Home Department has forwarded its request to the Federal Interior Ministry for approval and deployment arrangements.
Once approved, the requested Army and Rangers companies will be assigned to districts according to security assessments and operational requirements identified by provincial authorities.
