Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres in New York to discuss the Middle East situation, Pakistan’s peace efforts and key regional security issues.
According to the Foreign Office, Ishaq Dar and Antonio Guterres discussed the regional situation, with a special focus on the Middle East.
The DPM briefed the UN secretary general on Pakistan’s efforts to promote dialogue and diplomacy for lasting peace and stability in the region. Dar appreciated Antonio Guterres’ support for the peace process.

The Foreign Office spokesperson said Guterres appreciated Pakistan’s active participation and services for global peace and security. He also acknowledged Pakistan’s contribution to the United Nations agenda.
Security Council reforms raised
During the meeting, Dar also discussed reforms in the United Nations Security Council. He stressed that any reform process should be based on equality, transparency and fairness.
The deputy prime minister expressed concern over provocative statements by the Indian leadership. He said such rhetoric poses a threat to regional peace and stability.

Dar also made it clear that India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty is a violation of international law.
Kashmir central to regional peace
He highlighted the atrocities of the Modi government in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He said the Kashmir dispute remains a fundamental issue for peace and stability in South Asia.
The deputy prime minister said a peaceful Afghanistan is indispensable for stability in South Asia. He expressed concern over the use of Afghan soil by terrorist groups against Pakistan.

Dar made it clear that Pakistan will take all possible measures under domestic and international law to protect its security, sovereignty and people.
The deputy prime minister also discussed Palestine during the meeting. He reiterated Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
