Pakistan’s role in ongoing diplomacy
The prime minister said Pakistan has been actively involved in facilitating communication between the United States and Iran.
He also acknowledged the role of Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, praising his “tireless efforts” during recent diplomatic engagements.
According to the statement, regional stability and ongoing peace initiatives were key topics during recent consultations.
US President Donald Trump reportedly held telephone discussions with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Pakistan.
These discussions were focused on broader regional security and ongoing efforts to revive stalled US–Iran negotiations.
Pakistan has been actively working to revive dialogue between Washington and Tehran.
The first round of direct US–Iran talks reportedly took place in Islamabad on April 11–12, following a ceasefire brokered earlier by Pakistan on April 8. While no final agreement was reached, discussions continued without a breakdown.
Subsequent planned diplomatic visits by US officials were later postponed, although ceasefire arrangements reportedly remained in place with continued support from regional stakeholders.
High-level visit to Tehran
Field Marshal Asim Munir recently completed a high-level visit to Tehran, where he held talks with Iranian leadership.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the discussions resulted in “encouraging progress towards a final understanding.”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement, calling its mediation efforts “commendable.”
