Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said on Sunday that Pakistan is being recognised across the world as an honest mediator and a trusted country, terming it as a bright moment in the country’s history.
In an interview with The Sunday Times, he has said that Iran, the United States, and Gulf states place trust in Pakistan, which is increasingly seen as a credible facilitator for peace talks. He noted that the partnership between the political and military leadership has helped project Pakistan’s positive image at the international level.
He has said that Pakistan continues sustained diplomatic efforts for peace in the region and the wider world.
The prime minister has maintained that despite difficult circumstances, Pakistan has maintained a responsible and effective diplomatic role, while the economy has been stabilised and inflation brought down to single digits over the past two years.
Separately, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received a telephone call from Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
Matters relating to regional and international developments were discussed during the conversation. Both sides agreed to maintain continued contact and close consultation in order to address shared challenges.
The exchange took place in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, according to an official statement. The prime minister has expressed appreciation for Qatar’s support in efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions.
He also acknowledged Qatar’s constructive role in regional diplomacy.
Good wishes were conveyed by the prime minister for the Qatar's emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The prime minister has said that he looked forward to the Emir’s official visit to Pakistan. Both leaders agreed to sustain high-level engagement in view of the prevailing regional situation.
