The meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to sight the Zil Hajj moon is under way in Karachi.
According to details surfaced on Sunday, the meeting is being chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad. Representatives of the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Suparco and the Ministry of Science and Technology are also in attendance.
According to a Suparco spokesperson, there is a strong possibility of moon sighting if weather conditions remain clear and visibility is favourable. The moon’s age this evening is expected to be around 18 hours and 30 minutes.
The first of Zil Hajj 1447 Hijri is likely to fall on Monday, May 18, while Eid ul Adha is expected to be observed on May 27, 2026.
Meetings for the sighting of the Zil Hajj moon are also due to take place in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states today. The Saudi Supreme Court has appealed to citizens to sight the moon.
If the moon is sighted, the first of Zil Hajj in Saudi Arabia is also expected to fall on Monday, May 18. Waqoof-e-Arafah is likely to be observed on 26 May, while Eid-ul-Azha is expected on May 27.
