Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has said he recently held a lengthy meeting with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, amid continued speculation surrounding Khamenei’s health and whereabouts following reports that he was injured earlier this year.
According to Iran’s Mizan News Agency, Pezeshkian said the meeting lasted around two and a half hours and focused on important national and governance-related matters.
“What stood out to me in this meeting more than any other issue was the way of confrontation, the way of view, and the way of dealing with the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution,” Pezeshkian said, adding that the atmosphere of the discussion was based on “trust, calmness, empathy and direct dialogue”.
The Iranian president, however, did not disclose the exact agenda of the meeting or whether any major decisions were taken.
Speculation over Khamenei’s condition
The remarks come after months of speculation regarding Mojtaba Khamenei’s health following reports that he was injured during a February 28 air strike in Tehran.
Several international media reports, including one published by The New York Times citing unnamed Iranian officials, claimed Khamenei suffered multiple injuries, including wounds to his legs, during the strike.
The reports alleged that the attack killed several senior figures, including members of Khamenei’s family, although Iranian authorities have not publicly confirmed those claims.
According to the reports, Khamenei has since remained in a highly secure location with limited public appearances and restricted communication.
No official communiqué issued
Despite Pezeshkian’s confirmation of the meeting, Iranian authorities have not issued an official communiqué detailing the outcome of the discussions.
The president described the interaction as an important exchange between senior leadership figures and said it reflected continued coordination on state affairs.
Earlier, Yousef Pezeshkian had said Mojtaba Khamenei was injured but remained “safe and sound”.
He stated that he had sought confirmation through individuals with relevant connections after hearing reports regarding the supreme leader’s condition.
