The National Disaster Management Authority has issued a weather alert for most parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, Islamabad and Punjab, warning that rain and thunderstorms may affect several districts in the next 12 to 24 hours.
According to the NDMA spokesperson, a spell of rain is expected after the recent heat wave, bringing a noticeable shift in weather conditions.
The authority said rain is likely in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the next 12 to 24 hours, while Azad Kashmir and Gilgit may also receive rain and hail.
The NDMA has also forecast hailstorms and flash floods in several areas, urging citizens to remain cautious during changing weather conditions.
Thunderstorms likely in Islamabad and Punjab
The NDMA said rain with thunderstorms is expected in Islamabad, Murree, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal and Talagang. Gujar Khan, Jhelum, Sialkot, Gujrat, Gujranwala and Hafizabad are also likely to receive thundershowers during the same period.
The forecast further includes Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Kasur and Mianwali, where rain and thunder are expected. Sargodha, Jhang, Layyah and Multan may also experience rainfall with thunderstorms in the next 12 to 24 hours.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the NDMA has predicted rain in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Mingora and Malakand. Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Nowshera, Peshawar and Mardan are also likely to receive rain.
The alert also covers Bajaur, Charsadda, Kohat, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank and Dera Ismail Khan.
According to the NDMA, hailstorms are also expected in some parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Flash floods and glacial lake risk
The NDMA warned that heavy rain may trigger flash floods in vulnerable areas. The spokesperson also expressed concern over the possible bursting of glaciers and glacial lakes due to rising temperatures.
Authorities have advised people living in low-lying areas, mountainous regions and near water channels to stay alert and follow official safety instructions.
