Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated further, with Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accusing Washington of trying to destabilise the country from within.
Ghalibaf claimed the US naval blockade is designed to create internal rifts and weaken Iran’s unity.
He said Washington is attempting to divide the country into “hardliners and moderates” while increasing economic pressure to force compliance.
Criticism of Trump’s approach
According to Iranian state media, Ghalibaf directly criticised Donald Trump for adopting a dual strategy of political division and economic coercion.
He alleged that the US is using both military and media tactics to intensify pressure on Tehran.
‘New phase’ of pressure tactics
Ghalibaf described the current situation as a “new phase” of confrontation, where economic restrictions and information campaigns are being used alongside military measures.
He warned that the goal is to weaken Iran’s internal stability and “make us collapse from within.”
In response to the escalating pressure, Ghalibaf urged Iranians to remain united.
He emphasised that maintaining internal cohesion is the only effective way to counter external threats.
Background
The latest developments come after the United States imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports.
The move followed Tehran’s decision to close the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route for oil and gas.
