Police have arrested Khurram Nazir, a man accused of referring to Tarnol crossing as the “Strait of Hormuz” in a social media post during a sensitive security situation in the federal capital.
A case has been registered against him at Tarnol police station under provisions related to interference in government work and breach of peace.
According to police, Nazir was arrested after a controversial social media post was traced to him. The case was registered at Tarnol police station after authorities said the post violated government orders and could disturb public order.
Police said Section 144 is currently in force in Islamabad, and the accused allegedly violated restrictions imposed under the order.
Police cite breach of peace concerns
Officials said the accused had posted that if Tarnol crossing was closed, “all problems would be solved". Police described the post as a criminal act in the prevailing security environment.
According to officials, such statements could incite the public during a sensitive situation and create law and order concerns.
Police said Nazir was taken into custody after the controversial post was confirmed on his mobile phone. Authorities maintained that the arrest was made after verifying the social media content linked to the accused.
The police said the case includes provisions related to interference in official work and breach of peace.
Section 144 remains in force
Section 144 remains imposed in Islamabad as part of security measures. Police said citizens are required to follow government orders during the enforcement of the restriction.
Officials warned that posts or actions that provoke public unrest or violate official restrictions may lead to legal action.
