The Election Commission of Pakistan suspended its earlier notification that had de-notified Murad Saeed from Senate membership on March 25, 2026.
The move effectively pauses the legal status of his disqualification until further proceedings are completed.
Alongside the suspension, the Election Commission also halted the by-election schedule for Murad Saeed’s Senate seat, which was originally set for April 23.
The decision came after a request was submitted by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly member Jalal Khan.
Legal questions raised in petition
The petitioner argued that Murad Saeed had not even taken oath as a senator, raising questions over how the seat could be declared vacant.
This legal point became central to the suspension of both the disqualification notification and the election schedule.
The Election Commission has now adjourned the hearing related to the Senate seat until May 6.
Officials are expected to review the legal and procedural aspects before issuing a final decision.
