Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Nawaz Sharif has said that the party leadership stands firmly with the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and is committed to their development.
Addressing a high-level meeting of the Gilgit-Baltistan Parliamentary Board, Nawaz Sharif stated that no one understands Gilgit-Baltistan better than PML-N and emphasized that the party’s record of service in the region is unmatched. He added that the passion of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the development of Gilgit-Baltistan is similar to his own.
He said that constructing motorways is not an act of favor but a basic public necessity. Referring to infrastructure projects, he mentioned that the Lowari Tunnel connects Chitral to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and expressed confidence that Shehbaz Sharif would continue to serve the public with greater dedication. He also urged local leadership to take interest in development projects.
Nawaz Sharif highlighted the tourism potential of Skardu and Gilgit-Baltistan, noting that visitors from around the world are eager to travel there. He stressed that public funds should be utilized on the ground rather than being confined to paperwork, adding that his party has always focused on delivering results rather than making promises.
He further stated that Pakistan has played an effective role in both political and defense matters, claiming that the country’s international image has improved since 1998. He praised the contributions of national leadership, saying Pakistan is being honored globally.
He added that both the federal government and Punjab province are progressing in development, urging other provinces to follow their example. He reaffirmed that PML-N believes in practical action and will continue efforts to resolve the issues of Gilgit-Baltistan, calling the region as important as other parts of Pakistan.
He also questioned the governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, asking whether people there have experienced real relief despite the same party being in power for years.
