Pakistan has repaid a loan of $2 billion to the United Arab Emirates.
According to details surfaced on Saturday, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) confirmed that the payment had been made to the UAE. The UAE had sought the return of $3.5 billion from Pakistan.
Pakistan is due to pay a further $1.5 billion to the UAE on April 23. The country received $2 billion from Saudi Arabia two days earlier.
Pakistan also secured $500 million through the sale of Eurobonds a day earlier.
The SBP said the full repayment would not affect the country’s dollar reserves. Sources at the central bank said arrangements for external payments were in place.
