Inflation in the country has climbed to its highest level in 17 months, reaching 9.1 per cent last week with a weekly increase of over one per cent.
According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the annual inflation rate rose to 9.12 per cent, the highest since November 2024.
Prices of 15 essential items increased over the week. The domestic LPG cylinder rose by Rs600 to over Rs1,100. Eggs went up by Rs5 per dozen, chicken by Rs9.30 per kilogram, and mutton by Rs34.50 per kilogram. Fresh milk increased by over one and a half rupees per litre.
Conversely, the price of tomatoes fell by Rs5.17 per kilogram and garlic by Rs17.36 per kilogram. A twenty-kilogram bag of flour became over twenty rupees cheaper during the week. On an annual basis, flour has become 25 per cent more expensive. Onion prices rose by 17.57 per cent and garlic by over 15 per cent, while LPG prices surged by seven per cent.
