Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara has reacted to the co-hosts’ exit from the Men's T20 World Cup 2026 after a crushing defeat by New Zealand on Wednesday.
The Dasun Shanaka-led side produced an ordinary display at their home ground in Colombo, bringing their campaign to a disappointing close.

“There is a lot of hurt all round. The fans are devastated, disappointed, angry. The players are hurting badly too. I have been in similar dressing rooms. It is not easy,” Sangakkara said.
“But this responsibility comes with the turf. It is a burden and a great privilege to represent your country and your people.”
He said there is much work required at every level to put matters right.
“We cannot do the same things over and over and expect different results when the cricket world around us has evolved so quickly. We have not adapted and the danger is irrelevance,” he added.
