The Punjab School Education Department has implemented a new dress code for teachers in government schools across the province, making black gowns mandatory for all teaching staff.
The directive has been formally communicated to school heads through an official letter.
According to the correspondence issued by the Punjab School Education Department, all teachers will be required to wear black gowns as part of the newly introduced dress code.
The move is aimed at creating a standardized and professional appearance in public schools. Officials say the step will promote uniformity and reinforce the professional image of teachers.
Guidelines for male teachers
Under the new policy, male teachers are required to wear plain and simple colored shalwar kameez. They will also be allowed to wear pants as part of their attire.
For footwear, male teachers may use closed shoes or strappy sandals, as specified in the department’s instructions.
Guidelines for female teachers
Female teachers have also been given clear guidelines regarding attire. They are instructed to wear appropriate clothing that reflects dignity and professionalism.
In terms of footwear, female teachers should wear closed shoes or simple sandals, in line with the official dress code.
Objective behind dress code
The Education Department stated that the primary objective of the dress code is to promote uniformity, dignity, discipline and a clear professional identity among teachers.
Officials believe that a standardized appearance will enhance the respect of teachers among students and parents. The letter outlining the new policy has been sent to all government school heads across Punjab for implementation.
