Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has declared the achievement of export-led development targets as a top government priority and has directed officials to formulate a comprehensive strategy to increase agricultural exports and reduce the trade deficit. He also made it clear that no negligence regarding tax refunds for exporters will be tolerated.
The prime minister made these remarks while chairing a review meeting on the promotion of national exports in Islamabad. He instructed authorities to accelerate reforms aimed at providing facilities to exporters and to develop a coordinated strategy to increase exports in collaboration with the Rice Exporters Association.
During the meeting, the prime minister was briefed on trade statistics for the period from July to December 2025. He was informed about efforts to enhance exports in high-value sectors and ongoing measures to integrate Pakistan’s exports into the global value chain.
The briefing also highlighted steps being taken to improve port operations and logistics systems to facilitate exporters. In addition, it was shared that discussions are underway with several countries on government-to-government agreements related to rice exports.
