he International Cricket Council (ICC) has assured Bangladesh that the team’s participation in the upcoming men’s T20 World Cup in India will proceed without disruption.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) dismissed media claims of an ICC ultimatum over match locations.
Following concerns raised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board, the ICC emphasized its willingness to cooperate closely with the board to address any security issues. The governing body also welcomed Bangladesh’s suggestions regarding safety measures for the team during the tournament.
The BCB clarified that reports of an ultimatum from the ICC were unfounded, underscoring that constructive cooperation between the national and global cricket authorities will continue.
Conflicting reports
Confusion surfaced after a virtual call on Tuesday between the ICC and the BCB. Indian media outlets reported that the ICC had rejected Bangladesh’s request to play its matches outside India due to security concerns and warned that the team could forfeit points if it did not travel.
However, the BCB firmly denied receiving any such ultimatum, stating that no directive regarding points forfeiture was issued during the discussion.
As of now, neither the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) nor the BCB has released an official statement clarifying the outcome of the talks. The virtual meeting had been convened following a letter from the BCB to the ICC on Sunday, requesting that the board “consider” relocating Bangladesh’s matches outside India.
