The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has denied circulating reports of severe cold across the country.
A spokesperson stated that the news about extreme cold appearing on social media, electronic, and print media is incorrect. According to the spokesperson, the latest meteorological report clearly refutes these claims.
He said that the PMD’s predictions during the cold season have largely proven accurate, and the situation remains normal. The PMD spokesperson appealed to the public and media to rely solely on the authentic reports and bulletins issued by the Meteorological Department regarding weather conditions.
Moreover, the PMD reported that last month the country experienced below-average rainfall and higher temperatures. Overall, Pakistan recorded 34 per cent less rainfall than usual. Punjab received 73 per cent, Sindh 71 per cent, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 39 per cent below-average rainfall, while Balochistan recorded 11 per cent less than normal.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, rainfall was 25 per cent below average, and in Azad Kashmir it was 39 per cent lower than usual. In December 2025, temperatures were above normal by 1.2°C nationwide. Gilgit-Baltistan recorded 2.3°C, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 1.5°C, Punjab 1.9°C, and Balochistan 1.2°C above the seasonal average.
