The European Union has praised Pakistan for a 47 per cent fall in attempts to enter Europe through unlawful means.
Naqvi called on EU migration commissioner Magnus Brunner, during his visit to Brussels. The two sides exchanged views on unlawful immigration, human smuggling, and bilateral cooperation. Commissioner Brunner labelled the steps taken by the Government of Pakistan as exemplary.
“I shall visit Pakistan very soon for consultations on unlawful immigration,” the EU commissioner said.
Meanwhile, Naqvi said: "This year, 1,770 human smugglers and agents have been arrested in Pakistan.” He added that this figure is clear proof of the Government’s zero-tolerance stance on unlawful immigration.
He maintained that both the sides agreed on a joint strategy against unlawful immigration, human smuggling, and drug trafficking. They also agreed to strengthen all possible forms of cooperation, including the exchange of information.
“Smugglers, drug mafias, and terrorists act in concert, posing a challenge to every country. To meet this challenge, close cooperation at the international level is essential,” he added.
He maintained that the parties reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation between Pakistan and the European Union.
