A journalist who wrote a recent article in The Economist about Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi said that the story had no precedent in the international press and that work on it continued for a year.
Bushra Taskeen told Samaa TV’s programme "Mere Sawal with Absar Alam" that the team began its work in Pakistan in January and then moved through a process of verification. She said she did not accept the claim that any political force directed the team to prepare the story, and she added that she did not believe an organisation such as The Economist would do so. She called on those who alleged a paid story to provide evidence.

Taskeen said the team did not match its timeline with the 27th Amendment. She noted that Barrister Gohar and PTI members accused the team of taking money, and she stated that the journalists also held the right to approach the court. She said the team wanted Barrister Gohar to go to court.
She said the team met Aleema Khan during the preparation of the story. Taskeen added that Aleema Khan used no word against Bushra Bibi and said that the founder told her to remain silent whenever she spoke about Bushra Bibi. Taskeen said the meeting with Aleema Khan took place in January 2025.
