The price of a 20-kg wheat flour bag has been set at Rs1,810, while the 10-kg bag will cost Rs905.
According to details surfaced on Saturday, the Punjab government has begun releasing official wheat to flour mills, with the Punjab Price Control and Commodities Management Department issuing a detailed release policy.
Under the policy, flour mills and grinding units will receive government wheat at a fixed rate of Rs3,000 per maund. Only active flour mills verified through their electricity bills will qualify for the supply.
According to the policy, non-operational flour mills will not receive government wheat. The price of a 100-gram plain roti in Punjab has been fixed at Rs14.
Alongside the release of government wheat to flour mills, the revival of undisclosed private-sector wheat supply is also expected. Legal experts of the Punjab government have prepared an appeal based on strong legal points, including key facts behind the earlier court decision.
Through a hybrid system, the Punjab Food Department will distribute both government and private wheat to flour mills. At present, flour mills and traders hold large stocks of privately purchased wheat bought from farmers at Rs2,000 per maund.
Officials have urged flour mills to cooperate with the government to ensure a steady flour supply for the people of Punjab. The province currently has ample stocks of both government and private wheat, ensuring market stability.
