The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has launched a formal investigation into alleged corruption worth crores of rupees in the Hala Division of the Sindh Irrigation Department, reportedly involving senior officials and misused development funds.
According to NAB sources, inquiries have been initiated against Executive Engineer Tariq Kehar, Assistant Engineer San Dino Memon, and several others accused of misappropriating large sums of public money allocated for irrigation projects in Matiari district.
NAB has also sought detailed records from the Irrigation Department, directing officials to provide complete data on budget allocations and expenditure related to the projects in question.
Funds misused in name of canal works
Preliminary findings suggest that funds worth crores were allegedly embezzled under the guise of contracts for canals and watercourses across Matiari district.
Despite significant allocations, no physical work was carried out on several projects, according to NAB sources. The bureau suspects that fake billing and documentation were used to divert public funds.
In addition to the corruption probe, Executive Engineer Tariq Kehar is also facing a separate investigation into assets beyond known sources of income, NAB officials confirmed.
Authorities are examining property, bank accounts, and other financial records to determine the extent of alleged illegal wealth accumulation.
